  109.   in your AUTOEXEC.BAT where they will load, preferably, first.  The
  110.   Fax/Modem-Driver looks something like this:

  141.   Close the FaxMail for Windows "Control" Program by clicking on the
  142.   <System> button, <QUIT> button.  Load the Windows Control Panel
  143.   (found in "Accessories" Group or "Main" Group), select Printers and
  144.   choose the Printer-Driver that you want as your Default-Printer-Driver.
  145.   Then reload the FaxMail for Windows "Control" Program

  148.   When you have the FaxMail for Windows Control loaded and the PRINTER OR
  149.   FAX TOGGLE is toggled to FAX, Windows swaps from your Default-Printer-
  150.   Driver to "FaxMail Fax/Modem-Driver".  When you toggle back to
  151.   PRINTER or exit Windows, Windows swaps back to your
  152.   Default-Printer-Driver.  If you crash out of Windows, Windows does not
  153.   get a chance to swap back, so the next time you enter Windows it thinks
  154.   that "FaxMail Fax/Modem-Driver" is your Default-Printer-Driver
  155.   and when FaxMail for Windows makes it's swap it swaps

  242.   FaxMail Fax/Modem-Driver(FM_PN_DX.DRV) will be left in your WIN.INI
  243.   file.  As a result, toggling the <PRINTER OR FAX TOGGLE> button will
  244.   switching "back and forth" between the FaxMail Fax/Modem-Driver and
  245.   FaxMail Fax/Modem-Driver Print-Driver and your actual default
  246.   Print-Driver will be lost.

  249.   If, or when, this happens, you will have to:
  250.   1. Click on the <System-Button>
  251.   2. Click on the <QUIT> FaxMail for Windows button.
  252.   3. Load the Windows "Control Panel" program.
  253.   4. Load the "Printers" program.
  254.   5. Highlight your normal Printer-Driver.
  255.   6. Click on <Set As Default Printer>.
  256.   7. Click on <Close>.
  257.   8. Load the FaxMail for Windows "Control" program to reload FaxMail for
  258.      Windows back-ground operation again and all will be normal again.

  394.   "Universal, Hayes, Rockwell, Class 1 -- FM_ROCK1.COM" the first time I
  395.   installed FaxMail for Windows and everything worked fine.  I noticed
  396.   that when I chose "Hayes" that the INSTALL.EXE used FM_ROCK1.COM
  397.   Fax/Modem-Driver.  Later, I installed FaxMail for Windows on another
  398.   computer, it also had a Hayes.  This time I chose "Universal, Rockwell,
  399.   Class 1 -- FM_ROCK1.COM" because this selection uses the same
  400.   FM_ROCK1.COM Fax/Modem-Driver but it would not work.

  403.   When the Fax/Modem-Driver is being installed, it is modified by the
  404.   INSTALL.EXE.  These modifications will differ from one manufacturer to
  405.   the next.

  408.   Select the Fax/Modem-Driver by manufacturer rather than by name and be
  409.   sure to use the INSTALL.EXE to install rather than coping the Drivers.
  410.   If you copy the files onto your HardDrive, FaxMail for Windows will

  429.   COM-Port Conflicts, assuming we are working with internal Fax/Modems:
  430.   You can not skip COM-Ports when installing "COM using" devices.  For
  431.   example, if your computer came with a COM1-IRQ4 and a COM2-IRQ3
  432.   (very common) and you, now, buy a Fax/Modem; you can not configure
  433.   your Fax/Modem for COM4.  You must put it on COM3-IRQ?(find and use an
  434.   unused one) or disable COM2 on your IO-Board and configure your
  435.   Fax/Modem for COM2-IRQ3.
  436.  
  437.   IRQ Conflicts present themselves when for example you have a mouse on
  438.   COM1-IRQ4 (the proper configuration) and you configure your Fax/Modem
  439.   for COM3-IRQ4.  Normally COM3 should/would use IRQ4; but it assumes that
  440.   COM1 is not using IRQ4 and that nothing else is using IRQ4.  If this
  441.   type of "IRQ Conflict" happens to you; simple set your Fax/Modem to:
  442.   COM3 and use another UN-USED IRQ such as COM3-IRQ5, COM3-IRQ7,
  443.   COM3-IRQ2.  IRQ4 is usually used on COM1 so you should *not*, normally,
  444.   use COM3-IRQ4.  For details, read "FAX/MODEM INSTALLATION:" in the
  445.   README.TXT.

  447.   To configure your COM-Ports or Fax/Modem you will have to remove (or
  448.   get a professional to) your device, get the manual and move jumpers or
  449.   set DIP-switches.  For details on this subject, read the FaxMail for
  450.   Windows "FAX/MODEM INSTALLATION:" section of the README.TXT.

  455.   My Fax/Modem is *not* listed in the FaxMail for Windows installation
  456.   Fax/Modem Selections.  I ran COMTEST1.COM and COMTEST2.COM.  I know
  457.   that I chose the correct COM-IRQ yet when I read the CLASS1.TXT and
  458.   CLASS2.TXT files, that they produced, I found that they only <O> to my
  459.   Fax/Modem but did not <I> from the Fax/Modem.

  461.   During installation I tried some to the other Fax/Modem-Drivers yet
  462.   when I boot, the FaxMail for Windows Fax/Modem-Drivers will not load.

  466.   These Fax/Modems have programs that you load into them just before using
  467.   them.  Before using the Fax/Modems, you select and load the appropriate
  468.   PRE-FAX-PROGRAM and then load the Fax/Modem-Driver.  FaxMail for Windows
  469.   puts its Fax/Modem-Driver on the first line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT;
  470.   so you will have to move the line(s) that load the PRE-FAX-PROGRAM into
  471.   your Fax/Modem ahead of the FaxMail for Windows Fax/Modem-Driver.  Read
  472.   the next Question and Answer for a specific example.
